A convicted sex offender was arrested Monday for allegedly beating up his common-law wife, including hitting her with a car antenna, at their house in China Town.
Ivan Jones Castro, 36, was taken to Superior Court on Tuesday for his initial appearance on charges of assault with a dangerous weapon, assault and battery, and disturbing the peace.
Associate Judge Joseph N. Camacho maintained the $10,000 cash bail imposed on Castro.
Police detective Melissa H. Bauleong stated in her report that the alleged beating happened on the evening of Feb. 5, 2013. Castro also allegedly pulled the victim's hair and slapped her twice.
Bauleong said the wife managed to escape from the alleged beating by carrying their two children into the bushy area by the Garapan Central Park where she called police.
The detective said that, on Feb. 5 at 10:21pm,
Police officer Jason Tarkong received the call from the victim, who was screaming and crying. Tarkong then met the victim at the Garapan Central Park.
The victim reportedly told police that Castro is jobless and is involved in selling methamphetamine or “ice.” Bauleong said the victim also confessed to using illegal drugs.
In 2003, Castro pleaded guilty to sexually abusing a 13-year-old girl in 2002. He was sentenced to five years in jail, but was reduced later to four years because of “good conduct.”
