Bridge Capital calls for entries for annual art competition

Bridge Capital, LLC announced yesterday the creation of a separate category for photograph entries as it called for submissions for the 4th Annual CNMI Art Competition.

Administrative services manager Rowena C. Relado said the overwhelming number of entries they receive each year are from aspiring and professional photographers.

Relado said a lot of artists are now into photography and use technology to enhance their shots to make them more visually appealing.

“We expect to receive additional entries with the newest category to be introduced in this year's competition,” she told Saipan Tribune.

Aimed at promoting arts and supporting local artists, the annual competition is open to CNMI residents who have been living in the Commonwealth for at least one year.

The competition is open to two different age groups: students from kindergarten to 12th grade, and the open competition for artists 18 years or older.

Besides photography, other art categories are the two-dimensional and three-dimensional works of art. Relado noted that all entries must be the artists' original work. “We won't accept computer-generated or digitally enhanced submissions for the two-dimensional and three-dimensional categories.”

For the second straight year, Relado said all entries will be put on display during the 32nd Annual Flame Tree Arts Festival to be held at the Civic Center Park from April 19 to 21.

A panel of judges composed of government and business leaders will evaluate the entries, which must be submitted no later than the April 13 deadline.

Winning entries will vie for $2,500 for the Best of Show award, $1,500 for first prize, $1,000 for second prize, and $500 for third prize. Meanwhile, the top entries for each grade level will receive $100 while their respective teachers will receive $100 worth of school supplies from National Office Supply.

Official rules and entry forms may be viewed and downloaded from www.bccnmi.com/artcontest. Bridge Capital LLC said it will purchase some of the artwork at prices to be negotiated with the artist.

“We encourage all seasoned and aspiring artists to join the competition as every year, this event continues to grow and provide our artists a perfect venue to showcase their talents,” said Relado.
