Sasamoto tops Amigos February qualifier

Felix Sasamoto topped Amigo Golf Club's qualifying round for February after shooting a net 69 last Feb. 10 at the Marianas Country Club.

Sasamoto, who is known more for wielding a fishing spear than a golf club, beat out nine other contenders with his 89 gross, which after his 20 handicap was deducted, save him a score of 3-under. He posted a raw score of 45 and 44 in front and back nine, respectively.

Diding Hocog, John Guerrero, and Dan Quituqua all came in second with identical post handicap scores of 72.

Hocog shot 50 at the front and improved by four strokes at the back with a 46 for a gross of 96. With her 24 handicap, she came in with an even par net.

Guerrero posted a front nine gross of 42 and duplicated the score at the back nine for an 84 and with his of 12 handicap, he also came away with an even par net.

Dan Quitugua was not about to be left out of the race and shot 46 at the front and 40 at the back for a gross of 86. Minus his 14 handicap, Quitugua went back to the clubhouse with a net 72.

Doll Yamagishi rounded up third with a net score of 73. Other net scores are as follows: Joe Tudela, 74; Ben Jones Sr., 75; John Matsumoto, 77; Lorraine Babauta, 81; and Dr. Larry Hocog settled for 87.

Results of Amigo Golf Club's February Ace of the Month Tournament held last Sunday, Feb. 24, will be published in tomorrow's edition of Saipan Tribune. (AGC)
