By a vote of 19-1, the House passed Friday morning a bill increasing by 5 percentage points the hotel occupancy tax effective April 1, 2013 to help fund the CNMI’s tourism marketing and promotion.
House minority leader George Camacho’s (R-Saipan) bill now heads to the governor for action.
Once signed into law, the hotel occupancy tax will go up to 15 percent from the current 10 percent.
The House bill was amended by the Senate on Tuesday, and the House approved those changes minutes ago.
More details in Monday’s paper.
