Singles players had trouble-free wins in the Sun Palace Hotel Singles and Doubles Badminton Competition 2013 last Friday at the TSL Sports Complex.
In the Class A singles, Glenn Bluutjens, Jexler Caranto, Andreau Galvez, and Ferdie Arago notched separate wins after only two games. Bluutjens swept Macoi Aguda, 21-13, 21-18, while Galvez handed Aguda back-to-back losses after cruising to a 21-9, 21-13 triumph. In the two other Class A singles matches, Caranto downed Sam Jones, 21-18, 21-17, while Arago prevailed over Ezekiel Macario, 21-15, 21-15.
Three more singles games were played at the start of the Week 3 competition, while four were won by default.
In the Class B division, youth player Jordan Pangelinan outclassed Dick Guintu, 21-13, 21-19; Koh H. Pang topped Edwin Montoya, 21-18, 21-14; and Saliya Rajapakshe defeated Brendon Talania, 21-15, 21-12.
Getting free wins after a no-show from their respective foes were Son Jae Ok, Daniel Shang, J.P. Nopia, Chris Hilario, and the pair of Loida Ito and Lani Santos. Only one doubles match was not played and the four others were completed.
Galvez and Caranto teamed up in the Class A doubles and they swept Edwin Maratas and Jorge Olanda, 21-16, 21-14. Recording another two-game win in Class A were Jones and Bluutjens, who also dominated Olanda and Maratas, 21-11, 21-10, while Pang and L. Hwang and Deether Edralin and Kevin Park notched wins in Class B and C, respectively. Pang and Hwang won over Ariel Marino and Celso Agui, 21-9, 21-11, while Edralin and Park edged Nopia and Mark Apolinar, 17-21, 21-14, 21-15.
In the women's Class B doubles, Alma Ortega and Dianne Francisco gained twin wins. They first topped Marylyn Montano and Cheng Saturno, 21-16, 17-21, 21-17, and then swept Merlie Tolentino and Cristy Villaflor, 21-16, 21-20.
Meanwhile, results of Saturday and Sunday's matches and the division standings will be reported in Saipan Tribune's Friday edition.
