EMO-Homeland Security merge bill now heads to governor

The Senate passed Friday on Rota a House bill merging the Emergency Management Office and the Office of Homeland Security to help improve government efficiency and reduce costs.
House Bill 18-27, introduced by floor leader Ralph Demapan (Cov-Saipan), now heads to the governor for action.

The Senate passed the merger bill by a vote of 8-0, Senate President Ralph Torres (R-Saipan) said minutes after the voting.

The Inos administration is eyeing other agency consolidations to reduce redundancy of functions and cut government spending.

More details in Monday’s paper.
