Shirley's stay perfect in Women's M-League

MP United, left, and Shirley's FC players battle for the ball at the sidelines during their game in the Women's M-League last Saturday at the Oleai Sports Complex Field. (Roselyn B. Monroyo) Shirley's FC is still flawless in three games in the Women's M-League after dominating MP United, 5-1, last Saturday at the Oleai Sports Complex Field.

Shirley's, which blanked Paire, 2-0, and Tan Holdings, 5-0, for its first two wins, flirted with another shutout victory after taking a 3-0 halftime lead against MP United. Dianne Pablo gave Shirley's its first goal in the 21st minute, while Jeraldine Castillo closed out the first with back-to-back goals (44th and 45th).

The league-leading team then raced to a 4-0 advantage after Alexa Vergara found the back of the net just five minutes into the second half. MP United then avoided a shutout when Milagros King got into the board in the 61st minute. A goal from Negahr Rastguiy six minutes before the match wrapped up pegged the final score.

Tan Holdings 1, Matansa 0

In the other game last Saturday, Tan Holdings barged into the win column after edging Matansa.

Tan Holdings (1-1-1) was credited with an own goal off a Matansa booboo in the second half. With the loss, Matansa fell to a dismal 0-0-3 win-draw-loss record.

Independents 1, Paire 0

Independents also eked out a 1-0 victory over Paire last Tuesday to improve to a 2-0-1 slate.

Sarah Allen made the lone goal in the match in the 22nd minute to help Independents recover from its 1-2 loss at the hands of MP United in Week 2 of the spring league.

Paire dropped to a 1-0-2 card after failing to score in Week 3 of the six-team field.

Meanwhile, Week 4 games will take place this Saturday at the Oleai pitch. The undefeated Shirley's will test the mettle of Independents FC at 6pm, while Paire will try to regroup against Tan Holdings at 8pm. Then on Tuesday, MP United will face the winless Matansa.
