Filipino community to celebrate ‘Pistang Pinoy’ on Sunday

The Filipino community in the CNMI will cap the celebration of their country’s 115th Independence Day with a Pistang Pinoy (Filipino fiesta) on Sunday, June 16, from 8am to 10pm at the Garapan Fishing Base.

This year’s Pistang Pinoy theme is “Ambagan Tungo Sa Malawakang Kaunlaran” (Pitching in for everyone’s prosperity).

The Bayani Association will kick off the festivities with a medical mission from 8am to 11am. In collaboration with the United Filipino Organization, Brabu Pharmacy, and nurses from the Commonwealth Health Center, the mission will provide free services such as blood pressure monitoring and blood sugar testing.

The program of activities will start at noon with an invocation from Pastor Manuelito Rey. UFO president Annamae Adaza will officially open the program with welcoming remarks followed by Eli Arago, who will convey the message of Philippine Consul General Bayani Mangibin of the Philippine Consulate General in Guam.

Non-stop entertainment will be provided by Gerry Mesina, High Pitch Band, Rolly Cayapas, Rannie Enriquez, Michelle Villaraza, Prince the Magician, Wasak Band, Jets Band, Uncle Ben’s Music and Dance Studio, Manta Ray Band, Karate Do, Paul Dujua, and Glushko’s Academy of Performing Arts.

There will also be a children’s art contest, father-and-child contest, a la Showtime contests for families, food and non-food vendors, and a playhouse for children.

The highlight will come in the evening with the Pinoy Super Gay Model 2013. Event coordinator is Ernie Molina expresses his thanks to official photographers Hervin Jacinto and Antonio Cabrera, Ester Sablan of Saipan Music Dance and Studio for the rehearsal venue, and Robert Barcelo of New Paradise Florist and Nancy Baldoz of Island Florals and Gifts. Coverage will be provided by Digital Motion.

As part of the celebration, a Pinoy trivia contest will be ongoing at KWAW 100.3FM.

The 2013 Liberation Queen candidates will be present at the event. UFO encourages all Filipinos in the CNMI to support candidate Melody Johnson, who was named the 2013 Miss Pusong Pinoy, for Liberation Queen. Last year’s UFO candidate, Angelica Malasarte, was named 1st Princess for the Liberation Queen.

Docomo Pacific is once again this year’s major sponsor for Pistang Pinoy. Other sponsors include the TSL Foundation, Western Union, LBC Mabuhay, and KWAW Radio 100.3FM.

UFO’s Adaza thanked all sponsors, hotels, vendors, and individuals who supported with donations, prizes, and gift certificates; vendors who rented booths and vendors who supported the souvenir book; and to all the member organizations, officers, and volunteers.

“Maraming maraming salamat po [Thank you very much],” Adaza said. “Without you, our Pistang Pinoy won’t be as successful as of today.”
