Police arrested over the weekend a man allegedly engaged in selling methamphetamine or “ice” on Saipan.
Yuanrong Zhao, 41, was arrested on charges of trafficking of a controlled substance and illegal possession of a controlled substance.
Zhao was taken to Superior Court yesterday morning and later in the afternoon for a bail hearing. A $30,000 cash bail was initially imposed for his temporary release.
Drug Enforcement Task Force detective Patrick P. Sablan stated in his report that he and another detective spoke on Jan. 21, 2013, to a “cooperating defendant” who told them about Zhao’s involvement in “ice” trafficking.
Sablan said that on that same day, they used the “cooperating defendant” to purchase $200 worth of “ice” from Zhao at Sugar Dock in Chalan Kanoa.
Sablan said that officers arrested Zhao as soon as he handed the 1.1 gross grams of “ice” to the “cooperating defendant” and received the marked money.
Zhao was later released as police did follow-up investigation.
