Three players bagged back-to-back wins in Week 3 of the 2013 Shirley’s Badminton Classic.
In the men’s Class A singles, Andreau Galvez notched victories last Saturday and Sunday at the TSL Sports Complex. He first swept Jexler Caranto, 21-9, 21-20, and then had similar win over Glenn Bluutjens last Sunday.
Also getting a 2-0 record in the singles division over the weekend were siblings Jordan and Janelle Pangilinan. Jordan posted a 21-15, 21-20 win over Oh Im Bog in their Class B match last Saturday and then topped Deither Edralin last Sunday, 21-17, 21-18. Janelle also needed only two games to prevail over Lani Bartolome in the women’s Class A duel last Sunday, 21-19, 21-15, and versus Loida Ito last Saturday, 21-18, 21-16.
In other results last Saturday, two of the three opening matches had contrasting results. Son Jae Ok and Young Sang You swept Kevin Park and Jeremi Montenejo, 21-19, 21-18, while Yun Jun Lee and John Min Lee outclassed Park and Car, 11-21, 21-16, 21-17. The other game in the first batch of matches last Saturday resulted in a default in favor of A.J. Ortega after a no-show from Edralin, while Batch 2 were won by Galvez and the Pangilinan siblings.
In Batch 3, Toshiko Obata and Jen Cardinio earned straight game wins in Class B against Windy Fenandez, 21-18, 21-12, and Merlie Tolentino, 21-20, 21-111, respectively, while Alvin Alvarez and Edwin Montoya edged Jerry Tan and Park, 17-21, 21-19, 21-18.
In Batch 4, all doubles matches ended after only two games with Roxie Lazaro and Lani Santos, Celso Agui and Panapa Peteru and Ezekiel Macario and Jordan Pangilinan beating their respective opponents.
One doubles match was scheduled in Batch 5 with Fernandez and Bartolome winning over Shirley Kim and Ana Alvarez in Class B, 21-15, 21-20, while Dianne Francisco and Mario Diola ruled the singles tiffs, thumping Cristy Villaflor, 21-9, 21-12, and Edralin, 21-16, 21-13, respectively.
For the final batch of matches last Saturday, Peteru was also victorious in his singles game, slipping past Montenejo in Class C, 16-21, 21-18, 21-16, while Ferdie Arago and Macoi Aguda swept Jerry Hibi and Joseph Santos in Class A doubles, 21-19, 21-17.
