Refaluwasch community members gathered yesterday at Garapan Fishing Base to pledge their support for former House speaker Heinz S. Hofschneider, one of possible gubernatorial candidates in the November 2014 elections.
Former Department of Public Safety commissioner Ambrosio Ogumoro, one of the organizers, said over 100 voters from the Refaluwasch community have so far committed to supporting Hofschneider in the 2014 gubernatorial race and this was only as of yesterday.
“There will be more in the coming days,” Ogumoro told reporters at the event.
Ogumoro said they plan to hold succeeding gatherings to continue to encourage others to support Hofschneider, who is running as an independent. He said yesterday’s gathering was only an “initial” event, mostly for their family members and friends.
Besides Ogumoro, other event organizers were Felix Nogis and Henry K. Rabauliman.
Yesterday’s gathering of Refaluwasch community members was joined by other staunch Hofschneider supporters including Ralph Reyes, owner of MV Reyes Catering Services, former Division of Environmental Quality director Ike Cabrera, and Becky Cruz.
“We’re Heinz all the way,” Cabrera said.
Hofschneider, however, was not able to show up at the Garapan Fishing Base gathering because of an “off island emergency in the family,” Cabrera told reporters. His Refaluwasch supporters said they have yet to learn about Hofschneider’s possible running mate.
Gov. Eloy S. Inos of the Covenant Party is also running for governor in 2014. Another possible candidate is Senate President Ralph Torres (R-Saipan).
