The 2013 United Filipino Organization Basketball League will kick off on Sept. 22 at the TSL Sports Complex’s Gillette Multipurpose Gymnasium.
According to league coordinator Abner Venus, the opening ceremony will start promptly at 1pm and playing dates will be Tuesday, Thursday, Saturday, and Sunday, if necessary. First game is at 6:30pm and second game is at 8pm.
He said the 2013 edition of the competition will have four divisions—masters (40-and-over), open (21-39), youth (16-20), and junior youth (15-and-under). Entrance fee is $500 for the masters and open divisions, while the youth and junior youth categories will be assessed $350.
A total of 15 teams have already signified their intentions to join the league. In the masters division they are Team Armatech, Team Arnold, and Team Boy. In the open division are I Love Saipan, Hoopaholics, Docomo Pacific, Team Boy, Team Arnold, Team Peter, and Kentucky Fried Chicken.
The youth division so far has only three teams led by defending champions DYS, Kentucky Fried Chicken, and Team San Roque, while only two teams have signed up in the junior youth, namely defending champions DYS and Rollers.
Venus said the 2013 UFO Basketball League is inviting champions and other powerhouses of recent leagues to take part in the 2013 edition of one of the CNMI’s most prestigious cage competitions.
He specifically named DFS Galleria (2013 Shirley’s Coffee Shop Basketball League), CTSI (2013 Tan Holdings caging), Mobil (2013 Champions Emon Lodge Basketball League), Marianas Resort and Spa (Emon Lodge caging runner-up), Team Kalayaan, and Pacific Islands Club Saipan to field a team.
He said they are also inviting teams from the Saipan Rotary Club Youth Basketball League to join the youth and junior youth divisions of the competition.
“We are also inviting all other teams who are currently joining the outside leagues to come and participate in the 2013 UFO Basketball League,” said Venus.
