With just three days to go before tee off, the 4th Annual Docomo Pacific Golf Classic is already enjoying a bumper crop of participants with only 20 slots for the tournament remain unfilled.
“As of 5:23pm Tuesday, Aug. 27, we have 124 golfers confirmed. There are only 144 slots available for this tournament, so we can only accept 20 more golfers. The deadline to register for the tournament is tomorrow (today), Aug. 28 at 5pm,” Docomo Pacific general manager James Nelson wrote in an email to Saipan Tribune.
He said of the categories, the men’s C flight division has shown the most participants with 43 golfers registered. It is followed by the senior flight with 25, the men’s B flight with 19, and the men’s A flight with 16.
The men’s championship flight so far has six entries but Nelson expects a few more to signup before the deadline. Meanwhile, 15 ladies have signed up to participate in the ladies flight.
“We have fantastic raffle prizes and three great hole-in-one prizes which has always been a trademark of the event. In addition, the on-course refreshments will include the traditional classic hotdog and watermelon stands on both the front and back nine of the golf course. With the help of our sponsors, we will keep all our participants well fed and hydrated during and after the tournament,” said Nelson.
The Docomo Pacific Golf Classic will be held this coming Saturday, Aug. 31, at the Mariana Country Club. Show time for all golfers is at 7am and tee time is at 8am.
Proceeds from the 4th Annual Docomo Pacific Golf Classic will go to the non-profit organization Marianas Tourism Education Council.
To date, Nelson said the 2013 edition of the tournament has raised over $10,000 in cash from sponsorships alone. In-kind contributions will add another $10,000 or more in value that will be used as prizes and incidentals during the tournament. Overall, it is anticipated that after settling all tournament expenses, the net proceeds for MTEC will be $10,000 or more.
The main sponsors of the 4th Annual Docomo Pacific Golf Classic are First Hawaiian Bank, DFS Saipan Ltd, Mobil, McDonald’s Saipan, and the Tan Siu Lin Foundation. Hole-in-one sponsors, meanwhile, include Joeten Motors, Bank of Hawaii, and Triple J Motors. The general sponsors are Fiesta Resort and Spa Saipan, Delta Air Lines, Marianas Visitors Authority, Pacific Islands Club, Hyatt Regency Saipan, Dickerson & Quinn, Kautz Glass, and DataDot Micronesia.
