The Philippine Consulate General in Guam said those looking to make cash donations for victims of tropical storm Maring in the Philippines can course them directly to three agencies: the Philippine Red Cross, the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council, and the Philippine Department of Social Welfare and Development.
According to the NDRRMC, the death toll from Maring totaled 25 and resulted in the declaration of a state of calamity in five provinces (Bataan, Pampanga, Cavite, Laguna, and Rizal), key cities in Metro Manila, and other areas in Luzon.
As of Aug. 27, the total number of people affected by Maring increased to 643,281 families or more than 2.9 million people. Damage to property was pegged at close to $1.7 billion or 79 million pesos.
“For our kababayans [countrymen] and other Guam and CNMI residents who want to assist the…affected communities, you may send your monetary donations directly to NDRRMC, DSWD, and Philippine Red Cross. Monetary donations are the most flexible and would therefore be appreciated by these institutions,” said the consulate general in a statement.
