Jack Salas topped the Marianas Golf Association August Ace of the Month Tournament held last Aug. 24 at the Laolao Bay Golf Resort.
Salas won after shooting a gross score of 84, which was built around a 43 in the front nine and a 41 in the back nine. With his 17 handicap, Salas took the August plum with his 67 net.
Joey Dela Cruz actually shot the day’s lowest score with his net 66, but since he already won the June and July ace, Salas’ second-running 67 was hailed the August top score. Dela Cruz, a nine-handicapper, carded the net 66 after firing a 37 in the front and a 38 in the back for a still impressive gross score of 75.
Third place went to John Sablan who shot a 48 in the front and a 41 in the back for a gross score of 89. With a handicap of 22, Sablan netted a score of 67.
In the closest to the pin battle, Jason Sablan won in hole No. 4, Ron Benavente won in hole No. 6, Rep. Tony Benavente in hole No. 11, and Joey DelaCruz won in hole No. 15.
The club’s September Ace of the Month is scheduled for Sept. 21 at Coral Ocean Point Golf Resort. Showtime for this tournament is 9am with a 10am tee off.
