It is that time of the year again to show your passion for the ocean. Saipan, Rota, and Tinian will be participating in the 28th Annual International Coastal Cleanup. We are joining the global community to work toward trash-free seas by coordinating beach cleanups all over the CNMI islands.
The ICC will take place on Tinian on Wednesday, Sept. 18, and on Rota on Friday, Sept. 20. On Saipan it will take place over two days, Friday, Sept. 20, and Saturday, Sept. 21.
The trash along our coast and in our waters endangers the health of residents, wildlife, and coastal economies. Last year the CNMI had 2,035 participants pick up 10,915 lbs of trash that included plastic bags, straw wrappers, and cigarettes. This year we are aiming to increase the number of participants across the islands.
Coastal Resources Management is encouraging businesses, organizations, clubs, and individuals to spend one day (actually just an hour or two) cleaning up trash from our land, waterways, and oceans. We invite you to sign up for the event and volunteer to clean up or host a cleanup with our help. To sign up or for further information contact your International Coastal Cleanup coordinator:
