The U.S. Pinoys for Good Governance Marianas Chapter, Association of Filipino Pastors, and El Shaddai Charismatic Group on Saipan will commemorate the 12th anniversary of the 9-11 attacks next Wednesday at the American Memorial Park.
USP4GG Marianas Chapter chair Dr. Celia Lamkin said the event is being held to “honor and pay tribute to those who lost their lives on this tragic day and to honor the survivors and the victims’ families and the bravery of those who responded to the attack.”
The event will be from 6:30pm to 8:30pm at the AMP auditorium.
Lamkin said the program will include a message from USP4GG national chair Loida Nicolas Lewis. A video presentation about the Sept. 11 attacks will also be played.
There will be also community events such as health screening and outreach to the youth, among others, as part of the National Day of Service for the month of September.
Lamkin said that Saipan residents will also be joining Americans across the United States in volunteering for the September 11th National Day of Service and Remembrance.
Sept. 11 was designated a National Day of Service by the 2009 Kennedy Serve America Act.
“For many Americans it is also a day of service that provides an opportunity to join neighbors and local leaders to rekindle the compassion and unity shown on that day,” said Lamkin.
According to CNCS, this year’s projects will enlist volunteers in delivering meals, refurbishing schools and community centers, collecting food and clothing, signing up as mentors, reading to children, and more.
The CNCS is a federal agency that engages more than five million Americans in service each year through Senior Corps, AmeriCorps, and other programs. It improves communities through the Social Innovation Fund and leads President Obama’s call to service initiative, United We Serve.
