Century Tours, one of the leaders in the tourism industry in the CNMI, echoes the government’s plea to the U.S. Department of Homeland Security to address the increasing maternity traffic into the Commonwealth.
Century Tours also lauds Washington Rep. Gregorio Kilili Sablan’s effort to reach out to the agency to implement stricter enforcement, as reported by USA Today a few days ago. This appeal by Sablan goes perfectly well with Century Tours’ initiatives to curb illegal tourism in general, including exposing illegal operators in the CNMI that are involved in maternity traffic.
Century Tours has been chartering flights since 2002. Tinian Dynasty charters flights from Guangzhou and Shanghai and there are also commercial flights into Saipan. All operators must band together to address this maternity traffic and help the CNMI government with its efforts.
Earlier this year, Century Tours and its legal counsel, Steven Pixley, attended a meeting with the U.S. Homeland Security office based on Saipan to discuss the birth tourism problem and since then has been in regular communication with the agency about the issue.
Contrary to the false suggestion contained in the USA Today article, a review of arrival records and other data demonstrates that a vast majority of individuals involved in “birth tourism” activities arrive in the CNMI on commercial flights—not on charter flights by Century Tours.
Century Tours has encountered a few cases of overstaying involving its charter flights and the company has stringently implemented its policy of immediate reporting of overstaying tourists to the Department of Homeland Security.
Century Tours carefully screens its business partners in China in an effort to avoid engaging in business with entities that promote “birth tourism” and other questionable activities.
Century Tours is at the forefront of promoting responsible tourism in the CNMI. Unscrupulous operators take advantage of the increasing demand for travel to the Marianas and use this popularity to lure pregnant Chinese women.
Century Tours is in unity with the governments to fight such violations and looks forward to stricter enforcement. (Century Tours)
