Seven local sports associations had signified their intention of sending delegates to the 2014 Micronesian Games in Pohnpei.
During the Northern Marianas Amateur Sports Association monthly meeting last Thursday at the conference room of the Gilbert C. Ada Gymnasium, NMASA president Michael White said he already received letters of intent from Northern Mariana Islands Tennis Association, Northern Mariana Islands Volleyball Association (beach volleyball), Northern Marianas Swimming Federation, and Northern Mariana Islands Kanu Association. Saipan Baseball League, Inc. and Basketball Association of Northern Mariana Islands did not submit letters of intent last Thursday, but Tony Rogolifoi, who is an official of both groups, disclosed at the meeting that they will be sending teams to next year’s competition. Northern Marianas Athletics, which did not have a representative in last week’s meeting, sent an email to White last Friday, expressing its interest in participating in the quadrennial event.
Next year’s Micronesian games will run from July 20 to 29 and NMASA estimated the cost of participation per delegate at $1,200. The association earlier set a payment scheme for the trip with the initial payment of $600 due on July 1 this year, while the last must be completed by Jan. 1, 2014.
However, with no one turning in payments, White said delegates will be on their own as far as arranging their flight to Pohnpei is concerned. The NMASA head added they will discuss plans for the per diem, which is pegged at $50.
“We our encouraging you to book flights early. Flights to Pohnpei are only three to four times a week,” White said.
