The CNMI Public School System has hired a new finance director while the Board of Education has a new legal counsel.
BOE chair Herman T. Guerrero told Saipan Tribune that PSS has finally found a new finance officer in Derek Sasamoto. That position has been vacant since June 2012.
George Palican, who has been occupying the post in an acting capacity, returns to his old position as federal programs monitoring officer.
Sasamoto is a former comptroller of the Commonwealth Ports Authority; he left the agency in May.
Sasamoto will handle the system’s local finances. Federal programs are being handled by PSS federal programs officer Tim Thornburgh.
The board has also hired a new legal counsel, Adam Hardwicke. Guerrero said the new counsel will replace Kelly Butcher, who has resigned and will be leaving the board this month.
Hardwicke is the former chief public defender. He quit in December last year after seven years of service.
