Northern Marianas Amateur Sports Association is hosting the Micronesian Regional Sporting Event Management Program next month at the conference room of the Gilbert C. Ada Gymnasium.
The seminar will be held on Oct. 25 and 26 with Donna Spethman as facilitator. Spethman is the national program manager of the prestigious Australian University Sport, the governing body of university sport in the Land Down Under, boasting 41 members and more than a million athletes. At the seminar, the AUS official will be discussing how to deliver a successful event, team management, and club development.
Registration for the two-day seminar is free and is made possible through the collaboration of the International University Sports Association (FISU), Oceania University Sports Association, and the Australian University Sports Association.
NMASA president Michael White during the association’s meeting last month said local sports group should take advantage of this opportunity to help them conduct their respective competitions here and win bids for hosting regional tournaments.
“This workshop will be of great interest to anyone and everyone involved in the organization of athletics event, management of teams traveling off-island, and sports administration in general. Every NMASA member should send at least one representative to the workshop,” White wrote in the invitation letter sent to Saipan Tribune last weekend.
White also extended the invitation to representatives of both the private and public schools on Saipan, as well as interested individuals from Guam, Rota, Tinian, Palau, and the Federated States of Micronesia. Private and public schools on Saipan run their respective leagues/competitions through the Coalition of Private School Sports Association and the Marianas Interscholastic Sports Organization. They hold volleyball, basketball, canoe racing, and soccer tournaments.
The first day of the workshop will be from 1:30pm to 4:30, while the second and last will take place from 8:30am to 4:30am (with lunch break).
