Bad weather forced the cancellation of the majority games last week and left only indoor matches to push through.
In the Rotary caging played at the Gilbert C. Ada Gymnasium, the U15 and U19 divisions had their playoff games. DYS and KFC/Taco Bell went on to take the finals berths in the U15 division after beating the Ol’Aces and Rebelholics, respectively, while the S.J. Ol’Aces and Sonics advanced after defeating Rollers and Pro/Mariana Resort.
Over at the Francisco “Tan Ko” Palacios Ballfield, the weekday matches in the 2nd Annual DYS/Triple A Youth Baseball League were called off due to the soggy field, while the opening games in the 2013 NMIFA Youth Fall League both at the Oleai Sports Complex Field and Hopwood Junior High School were also rescheduled due to rain.
Fortunately for the visiting students from Japan, it did not rain last Wednesday evening and they were able to play against Tan Holdings FC in a friendly match.
Golfers had had some luck last week as they were able to compete in the MARPAC 40th Anniversary Golf Tournament held last Saturday at the Laolao Bay Golf Resort. Rick Kautz and Nick Sablan recorded the bets net score (69.80) in the two-man scramble double Peoria tournament, but the 40th placers Matt Deets and Tiberius Mocanu took the top prize in the weekend event.
In an off-island event, Leina Kim won her second tournament of the season after topping the Rocky Mountain Athletics Conference Tournament No. 2 held at Black Hill State in Spearfish, South Dakota.
Kim, who came from a record-breaking game in the opening season, went 6-over par 148 in the second tournament for a seven-shot win against Western New Mexico’s Arrianna Estrada (13-over par 155). The CNMI golfer also handed her CSU-Pueblo to its second straight victory.
