The Tinian Marianas Lions Club took part in the International Coastal Cleanup, albeit three days after the Sept. 18 date for the islandwide event on Tinian.
The organization, which was only recently established, was able to collect 150 lbs of garbage at its designated beach site at Long Beach on Sept. 21.
TLMC president Liz Hofchneider said a total of 33 volunteers participated in the cleanup, including 15 Lions Club members, six members of the Tinian Junior Senior High School National Honor Society, and 12 staff and management of JC Café.
Hofchneider said the 150 lbs of trash they collected were mainly made up of metals, plastic bottles, and empty beer cans.
Tinianwide, the International Coastal Cleanup was coordinated by the Coastal Resources Management and involved a total of 145 volunteers: 68 adults and 77 youth.
CRM ICC Tinian coordinator Ed Hofschneider said the coastal cleanup covered 10 beach sites and yielded 793 lbs of trash, enough to fill 42 garbage bags.
CNMIwide, a total of 10,290 lbs of trash was collected by over a thousand people during the 28th annual International Beach Cleanup on Saipan, Tinian, and Rota, according to CRM ICC coordinator Nicole Schafer. (Mark Rabago)
