The girls U15 division competition in the 2013 NMIFA Youth Fall League kicked off last Saturday with Shirley’s FC blanking MP United, 4-0, at the Hopwood Junior High School Field.
The opening of the girls U15 league was stalled for two weeks due to rain and when competition started, both teams were groping for form. Shirley’s FC then finally broke the ice in the 40th minute with Katrina Costales scoring.
MP United tried to tie the game in the first half and had several attempts, but could not complete them, while Shirley’s FC got into its rhythm in the second half en route to the easy win. Dianne Pablo gave Shirley’s its second goal in the 51st minute, while Samantha Manacop drilled back-to-back goals in the 57th and 64th minute.
Two games were set in the opening week of the girls U15 division with Tan Holdings getting a free win after Matansa FC did not have enough players for the match.
MP United 5, Tan Holdings FC 0
In the boys U18 division, MP United improved to a 2-0 record after cruising past Tan Holdings FC last Saturday at the Hopwood pitch.
MP United, which won its season debut against Paire FC, 6-2, got two goals from Tanapon Unsa to maintain a clean record. Brian Lee, Jehn Joyner, and Jireh Yobech chipped in one goal apiece.
Unsa put MP United in the board early with his goal in the seventh minute, while Joyner made it a 2-0 advantage with his goal in the 35th minute. Four minutes later, Unsa earned his second goal to hand MP United a 3-0 halftime advantage.
MP United kept going in the second half, while goals remained elusive for Tan Holdings FC (0-1). Yobech, who also had one goal in their win over Paire (0-1), got his second when he scored in the 55th minute, while Lee duplicated the feat six minutes later.
MP United 4, Shirley’s FC 0
Over at the Oleai Sports Complex Field last Friday, MP United also moved up to a 2-0 mark in the boys U15 division after shutting out Shirley’s FC.
MP United gained goals from three different players and got an own goal to nail back-to-back victories early in the season. Sun Joon Tenorio drew first blood for MP United when he found the back of the net in the seventh minute. Daniel Lim was next, scoring in the 22nd, while Edwin Kim hit the last goal in the first half (33th minute).
The victory over Shirley’s FC (0-1) was MP United’s second shutout win, as the latter also blanked Paire FC (0-1), 6-0, in Week 1 of the boys U15 league.
