Kick-offs games highlighted last week’s competitions on Saipan.
In the M-League, the opening games in the fall season finally took place at the Oleai Sports Complex Field. Wild Bill’s led Week 1 winners in the CNMI’s premier men’s league. Also notching victories in the opening week were MP United, Tan Holdings FC, Korean Football Association on Saipan, and Shirley’s FC.
Still in football, the girls U15 division of the 2013 NMIFA Fall League also had its first set of games with Shirley’s FC beating MP United and Tan Holdings winning via forfeiture over Matansa FC.
In basketball, the UFO Budweiser caging kicked off the Open and Masters division contests at the Gillette Multipurpose Gymnasium. In the Open division, Kanoa Resort edged the Hoopaholics, 71-70, before the latter recovered against Toka, 75-66. Also winning in Week 1 of the Open division were Ladder Beach, AXE Proa, and KB Market.
In the Masters division, Degree/UPAA stunned defending champion Armatech MDX, while Shakir Realty also prevailed in the opener, downing Pacific Islands Club.
Over at the Gualo Rai Basketball Court, the DL Corp. caging kicked off its second season with defending champion Adobo defeating the Chalan Kanoa Saints in the opener. Also recording victories in the opening week of the DL Corp. caging were the Bandits, Island Floral, and Docomo.
In volleyball at the Marianas High School Gymnasium, the 2013-2014 MISO Boys Volleyball League started with seven teams battling for the season championship. Saipan International School and Grace Christian Academy went undefeated in the opening week with their similar 3-0 records.
Meanwhile, the Triple A baseball league continued with its regular season games. The Padres and Braves remained tied for the lead after last Friday’s match, as they hold identical 9-2 slates.
