WASHINGTON, D.C.—Delegate Gregorio Kilili C. Sablan (Ind-MP), along with most members of the House Democratic Caucus, met at the White House yesterday with President Barack Obama to discuss their position on the ongoing government shutdown. Attempts by House Republicans to condition all government funding for the fiscal year that began on Oct. 1 to a delay of the Affordable Care Act led to the shutdown now in its second week.
“The President remains firm,” Sablan said. “He believes that we need to open the government and restore services to the American people. He believes that we cannot put our economy and the world’s economy at risk by threatening to default on U.S. debt. And, once the government is reopened and the threat to our economic well-being is removed, he is more than willing to have a conversation about any aspect of the federal government’s fiscal policy.” (PR)
