Wearing a case-worth of baby diapers fashioned into a fairy costume, doe-eyed Aria Jade Villagomez won this year’s edition of the Baby Pageant, the highlight of Saturday’s “2013 Healthy Mothers, Healthy Babies Fair, and Daddies too!” event.
The 1-year-old’s beaming parents thanked organizer MARPAC, Huggies Diapers, and the judges for choosing their daughter as the winner of the baby competition.
The baby’s mother, Rita Carreon, said that Baby Ariah’s Tinkerbell-like costume was fashioned entirely out of Huggies Diapers and some recycled material from old costumes.
Jake Villagomez, Carreon’s better half, said that Carreon consumed a whole case of diapers to make the winning outfit and stayed up the whole night on the eve of the competition to make the finishing touches.
Carreon said the costume actually took a week to make, from design to the actual stitching together of the diapers and other materials. She thanked Aesuk Sablan for helping in the costume’s design and Villagomez for letting her go through the whole case of Huggies.
As their prize, the Villagomez’s took home a spanking new baby travel system, Huggies Diapers and Wipes, and baby formula.
Finishing second was Colin Jay Fejeran after the 1-year-old showed up at the Pedro P. Tenorio Multi-Purpose Center wearing an innovative turtle costume made from diapers. Third place went to Memzie Elieisar who had a mermaid costume fashioned out of Huggies. Tritan Ranili and Kadmielle Dwane Sales rounded up the rest of the competition.
Aside from the Baby Pageant, the all-day “2013 Healthy Mothers, Healthy Babies Fair, and Daddies too!” also saw Huggies draw the grand prize winners of its current promotion.
Winning a one-year supply of Enfamil baby formula was Adrian Ada, a 25-year-old father-to-be from Koblerville. He said the baby formula would come in handy as their baby is on the way.
Melissa Malakas was the lucky winner of a one-year supply of Huggies Diapers and Wipes.
Saturday’s event also included a lot of production numbers and parlor games, including a Diaper Derby, Quick Crawl, and Baby Bottle Drinker.
MARPAC consumer manager Tom Basa said he was pleasantly surprised that, despite Saturday’s inclement weather, the 2013 Baby Fair still managed to draw between 250 and 300 attendees. He said last year’s event topped at 250.
Basa promised a better and bigger Baby Fair for 2014. He also congratulated all the winners and thanked all the participants of the event. He also extended his gratitude to the hard-working staff of MARPAC for making the event possible and also the sponsors, which donated handsomely to the event.
MARPAC also featured some its other products during the fair, including Huggies Diapers and Wipes, SUN detergents, Enfamil formulas, Glade, Windex, Scrubbing Bubbles, OFF Spray, Scott, Cottonelle tissue, among others.
