The 7th Chagi Cup Wake Board Competition hosted by J & K Marine Sports will be held on Oct. 24 at the 13 Fisherman starting at 8am to sundown.
Around 30 competitors from Japan and Saipan, including three professional wake boarders from Japan are expected in the tournament. Due to the termination of direct flight from Osaka and Nagoya to Saipan, Chagi Cup has been cancelled since 2008, however, an increasing amount of requests from previous competitors to conduct the tournament led organizers to believe that hosting a wake boarding tournament on Saipan again would actually be good for everyone and the economy of the CNMI.
Organizers have already asked a few Japanese tour agencies to support the event by donating some prizes and water.
This tournament has been announced on many web pages since May this year so organizers are expecting many competitors and viewers from Japan. Organizers believe that the revival of this competition will lead to more wake boarders from Japan visiting Saipan and brand Saipan as the closest US wake board Mecca from Japan.
The list of Japanese pro wake boarder joining the event includes Yoshiyuji Hatakeyama and Makoto Fujimoto of Team Osaka Tokopanas and Asami Horino of Team Lake Ymanaka and Hakutaka Marine and 2013 Tokyo Toyosu Champ
The tournament will have both team and individual competitions. (PR)
