The Seventh Day Adventist Clinic on Friday said goodbye to Dr. Earl Sablan Sauget, who the last 17 years had been coming over from his practice in Guam to provide orthodontic care to the people of Saipan.
Clinic director Kenneth D. Pierson and SDA Clinic staff honored Sauget with a simple sendoff party last Friday at the clinic’s Quartermaster Road location.
Sauget, who traces his roots to Saipan where his grandfather was born in the 1800s, also received a plaque of recognition from SDA Clinic.
“Your commitment to excellence and dedication to continuing the legacy of orthodontic care of Dr. John van der Pyle and willingness to give up your time and expertise for the last 17 years are greatly appreciated and admired,” Pierson read from the plaque.
Sauget, for his part, gave the SDA Clinic a painting by local artist Greg Eliott that depicted a sailboat. He said he picked the painting of a sailboat because it best describes the experience van der Pyle and another orthodontist who served Saipan, Dr. Michael Lee, had on the island.
“Today I went DFS to try and find something to give in my appreciation for all the time you have given me and my staff. I just walked around the store and all of a sudden there was it…Dr. van der Pyle and Dr. Fisher were very fond of sailing and Dr. Fisher had a catamaran. I want you guys to have this and I think this kind of represents the history of orthodontics here on Saipan.”
Aside from Saipan, Sauget and his team also provided orthodontic care in Palau.
“What you’ve been able to provide in the last 17 years people here wouldn’t have been able to have anywhere else. They would have to fly to Guam to receive orthodontic care and so by you being willing and able to sacrifice your time to come out here and made the treatment here possible is just admirable and we appreciate it a lot,” said Pierson.
Sauget started serving Saipan patients in 1997 following the retirement of his predecessor, van der Pyle, who himself served the island for 23 years.
SDA Clinic has two branches on Saipan. The main office along Quartermaster Road is open from Monday to Thursday, 7am-6pm, and Friday, 7am-1pm. Its Kagman office, meanwhile, is open on Monday, Tuesday, and Thursday from 1pm to 5pm.
It offers a slew of dental services, including cosmetic and general dentistry, pediatric dentistry, orthodontics, and implant dentistry.
