The jury trial of two men suspected of being suppliers of methamphetamine or “ice” began yesterday in the Superior Court.
Assistant attorneys general Chemere McField and Barbara Cepeda began calling in their witnesses in the case against Yu Hua Wang and Le Xian Chen. Police detective Roque Camacho was the last witness to testify yesterday for the government. Defense lawyer Bruce Berline, counsel for Chen, completed his cross-examination of Camacho.
The trial will continue today, Tuesday, at 8:30am with assistant public defender Matthew Meyer, counsel for Wang, expected to cross-examine the detective.
Wang and Chen are facing charges of one count of trafficking of a controlled substance, one count of possession of a controlled substance, and one count of conspiracy.
A sting operation conducted by the Drug Enforcement Task Force using a confidential informant who purchased $200 worth of “ice” on Feb. 27, 2010, led to the arrest and filing of charges against the suspects.
Associate Judge Joseph N. Camacho is presiding over the trial.
