With the weather getting better last week, various tournaments on Saipan pushed through.
The Pacific Islands Club hosted the Bike for Like 50K with youth biker Erico Castro leading the winners list. Castro topped the road bike category after clocking in at 1:54:59 and beating Jerome Diyco (1:55:01.06) and Butch Sublemente (1:55:01.37). In the women’s road bike category, Athena Andrews ( 2:11:03) defeated Zai Lijuan and Yurie Lorangz, who recorded 2:33:30 and 2:57:49, respectively, while in the MTB division, Nap Dizon (1:55:01.37) won over Dencio Bautista (1:55:01.68) and Ricky Suba (1:59:24).
In the NMIFA fall league, MP United downed Tan Holdings FC, 4-1, in the boys U18 division game last Saturday at the Oleai Sports Complex Field. Over at the Hopwood Junior High School Field, Paire notched a 1-0 victory over Tan Holdings FC in the girls U15 division match.
In the 2nd DL Corp. Invitational Basketball League at the outdoor Gualo Rai Basketball Court, Island Floral managed to complete its game against Maplas and pulled off a 67-60 victory.
In the indoor Gillette Multipurpose Gymnasium for the UFO Masters caging, Blue Haus won the battle of undefeated teams after routing Degree, 112-83, while AXE Proa and I Love Ladder Beach also kept their unbeaten records in the Open division.
Still in basketball, Marianas High School also remained clean in the MISO girls varsity caging after outclassing Mt. Carmel School in overtime.
In the MISO boys volleyball league, Saipan International School also retained its unblemished record, while Grace Christian Academy kept the No. 2 spot.
In badminton, the Tan Holdings Open 2013 wrapped up the opening week of its doubles competition with youth players dominating the contest and advancing to the semis and finals.
In athletics, Northern Marianas Athletics held the second leg of its All Schools Cross County Series at the Civic Center in Susupe.
