All Souls Day on Saturday, Nov. 2, will be celebrated this Friday together with All Saints Day, according to Fr. Ryan Jimenez, Apostolic Administrator of the Diocese of Chalan Kanoa.
He said the two church events will be joined in one day because “as Catholics our main goal is to live a good life and become saints.”
All Saints Day and All Souls Day celebrations at the Chalan Kanoa cemetery will commence with a rosary for the dead at 4pm, and then continue with an evening prayer for the dead at 4:30pm. The liturgical event will end with a two-hour Mass at 6pm.
In support of the Catholic community and in honor of all saints and souls, organizations will be volunteering their time on Friday to help the church prepare for Friday’s religious ceremonies.
Mount Carmel School seniors, CCD students, and members of the El Shaddai church group will be volunteering on Friday.
Jimenez shared that Mount Carmel School senior class students will be conducting the two collections on Friday evening and will be in their school uniforms.
“The funds that are going to be collected will go toward maintaining the cemetery as well as other needs of the church,” Jimenez said. “I would like to thank all of the volunteers and I think that this particular experience will give the students the opportunity to be a part of this ministry of the church.”
MCS senior class adviser Luz Baldazo said that students are excited to be a part of the commemoration of the departed and support the church and community.
“This is our first time to join the All Saints and All Souls Day celebration and as a Catholic school I think it is fitting to not only serve the church and community but [to also] help with funds for the maintenance of the cemetery.”
Hundreds are expected to converge on the Chalan Kanoa cemetery this Friday to honor their departed loved ones.
