The CNMI bets’ participation in off-island competitions were among last week’s highlights.
In the 2013 Pilipinas Cup International Invitational Youth Tournament held at the Nuvali-Evoliving Field in Laguna, Philippines, MP United FC competed in the boys U18 division and brought home the third place trophy after beating La Salle Greenhills in the playoff match. The MP United U18 team is composed of Chris Aninzo , Greg Sablan, Kennedy Izuka, John Taisacan, John Diego Masga, Bob Kim, Scott Kim, Thanyakorn Konkoed, Jehn Joyner, Chris Park , Angelo Jones, Namki Kim, Tanapon Unsa, Daniel Lim, Sungbae Park, and the Philippines’ Kevin Hartmann and VJ Ramos. The Typhoons won over Sta. Rosa FC, 4-1, and Jeepney FC in the pool play before losing to Ateneo in the battle for first place in Group B and eventual champion Loyola Meralco Sparks in the semis.
MP United’s Michelle and Rachelle Masga, Amy Taylor, Jayda Mendoza, Karleen Reyes, and Seoung Hyun Lee joined the same tournament and were part of the Chelsea FC Philippines that won the girls championship after posting an unbeaten record in the four-team field.
In Maui, Hawaii, Butch Sublemente and Peter Prestley joined the 2013 XTERRA World Championship along with former Saipan resident Lewie Tenorio. Sublemente returned to XTERRA World and completed the triathlon race in 4:23:55, while Prestley and Tenorio debuted in the event with better times of 4:06:46 and 4:11:45, respectively.
Back in local events, the Marianas Interscholastic Sports Organization continued with its games in the boys volleyball and girls basketball leaguesMarianas High School and Marianas Baptist Academy remained undefeated in the girls varsity and junior varsity divisions of MISO caging, while Grace Christian Academy ended Saipan International School’s nine-game winning streak in volleyball.
In basketball, Blue Haus bagged its fourth win in as many games in the Masters division, while NMA Proa won the battle of unbeaten teams in the Open category after downing I Love Ladder Beach.
Still in basketball, the DL Corp. caging managed to hold several games at the outdoor Gualo Rai Basketball Court, as Monday, Friday, and Saturday’s matches were not rained-out.
The M-League and 2013 NMIFA Youth Fall League also moved ahead with their schedule, thanks to a better weather last week.
In badminton, champions in the Tan Holdings Open 2013 were crowned as playoff games were completed last week at the TSL Sports Complex.
