After the success of last Thursday’s 2013 Trunk or Treat at the Marianas Business Plaza, Rotary Club of Saipan president Laila Y. Boyer is now looking at the possibility of rotating the venue for the annual Halloween event.
For the longest time, Trunk or Treat was held at the American Memorial Park. However, a federal shutdown resulted in the AMP closing down for a couple of weeks, which forced the Rotary Club to relocate this year’s Trunk or Treat to the old Nauru Building in Susupe.
“We would like to rotate venues for next year as we realized that surrounding villages, such as Susupe and Chalan Kanoa, really benefited from the event being closer. So we would like to bring it closer to other villages next year. I think we are up for the challenge!” Boyer said in an email to Saipan Tribune.
The civic group’s president also thanked Rotary Club members and sponsors for all their help in organizing the 2013 Trunk or Treat, which saw the attendance of over 3,000 trick or treaters.
“A big thank you to past president Ben and Linda [Babauta], past president Pete and Lucy [Shilling], director Ivan Ilmov, Rotarian Karl Reyes, director Dennis Yoshimoto, Rotarian Max Ketzer, Rotarian Vicky, Rotarian Bill, the MHS Interact Club, D&Q Saipan, and Micronesian Brokers for all their help!”
Boyer said the assembled crowd was happy at how Trunk or Treat turned out.
“Despite the long wait and heat, as I walked through the crowd, parents were thanking us for having the event and I announced that Rotary just had a successful fundraiser, the 2013 Las Vegas Night, and what we receive, we give right back to the community...it is truly the best thing about Rotary… We are grateful to be able to serve our community the way we do, it is really worthwhile and we thank everyone for their support. To all those who volunteered, you are a true example of Service Above Self!”
Next on the Rotary Club’s agenda is Thursday’s groundbreaking for the Rotary Family Park in Kagman, the annual Man’amko Thanksgiving Lunch set on Nov. 19, the annual Third Grade Dictionary Project, 2013 Rock to Read Project, and the 2013 Christmas Toy Drive with the Salvation Army.
