Joeten Ace Hardware will open the doors to a spanking new branch on Tinian tomorrow with CNMI and island officials invited to the ribbon cutting.
Priscilla Tenorio, Joeten Ace Hardware president, said the company’s newest outlet is located along Broadway in Marpo and has 4,800 square feet of retail space.
She said the opening of the store has long been awaited by island residents who have been pining for a global brand hardware outlet to land on its shores.
“We feel the people of Tinian are underserved and we have many requests from the Tinian community to open a store. We’re excited to play a role in the continued growth of Tinian,” she said.
Joeten Ace Hardware-Tinian will be similar to its sister stores on Saipan, save for a little twist.
“Basically it will be the same with the other stores on Saipan. However, we added a small grocery section to our merchandise mix,” Tenorio said in an email to Saipan Tribune.
She said the construction of the Tinian branch took eight months to complete.
“It took longer to construct than our original plan and target date of completion. This is due to the delays in shipments of materials because of weather conditions and availability of vessels to bring cargoes to Tinian,” she said.
While she declined to cite the exact cost of the branch’s construction, she, however, said that Joeten Ace Hardware plunked down more than a million dollars in investment for its Tinian outlet, which will be initially manned by a staff of eight.
Aside from Gov. Eloy S. Inos and Lt. Gov. Jude U. Hofschenider, who is from Tinian, Joeten Ace Hardware has also invited senators, representatives, Tinian Mayor Ramon Dela Cruz, and other VIPs to grace the branch opening.
Ace Hardware Corp., founded in the 1920s, is a world-leading hardware retailer based in Oak Brook, Illinois. It has 4,600 stores across over 60 countries and does over $3 billion in retail hardware sales annually.
