Three teams ended the year with a bang after bagging title wins in their respective divisions in the 2013 Saipan Electronic Billiards Association Bud Light Cup.
In the Masters division, the Joker Destroyers won the championship after dominating the Jokers Fantastic Baby in the finals, 9-1. In the title match, the Destroyers swept the partners wild and crazy cricket, partners regular cricket, and partners 701 double in/double 1 and took a 3-1 win in the singles 501 double in/double out to ease past Fantastic Baby.
Jokers Destroyers advanced to the finals after prevailing in the semis against Sand Juvy’s Pythons, while Jokers Fantastic Baby eliminated Bammy D’Executioner in the other Final Four pairing.
Joining Jokers Destroyers in the champion circle were Oceanside Hunters and Jonny’s Mixed Nutz, which claimed the C and Ladies division crowns.
Jonny’s Mixed Nutz ruled the single-elimination tournament against five other teams. It was first paired against SOS Avengers and won to march into the semifinals against Jokers Hottie Yuppies, which beat Jokers Try Luck Angles. Mixed Nutz then barged into the finals after downing Jokers Hottie Yuppies in the upper bracket semis.
In the lower bracket, it was Jokers Daffodils versus Bammy’s Kitty Kats, which drew a bye in the first round. Daffodils went on to oust Kitty Kats, but failed to pull off an upset over Mixed Nutz in the finals. Mixed Nutz nailed a convincing 8-2 win over Daffodils in the title division tiff, sweeping the singles wild and crazy cricket and partners 701 open before splitting the partners 501 doubles in/doubles out and singles Burma with its finals foe.
In the C division, Oceanside Hunters also gained eight points to top Jokers Team Gua’fi in the finals. The divisions champion was unbeaten in the singles wild and crazy cricket and singles Burma and had a split win in partners 501 double in/double out. Jokers Team Gua’fi earned three points in the finale after prevailing in the partners 701 open.
Before thwarting Jokers Team Gua’fi in the finals, Oceanside Hunters secured four wins to advance to the division title game. Oceanside Hunters first ousted Jokers Cripplers and then whipped Oceanside Sparks in the quarterfinals to gain a semis entry against SOS Dart Knights. Oceanside Hunters went on to seal the finals ticket in the upper bracket after downing the Knights.
In the lower bracket, Jokers Team Gua’fi got a bye in the opening round before surviving Jokers Assassins in the Round of 8. Up next for Jokers Team Gua’fi was Sand Juvy’s Dart-A-Holics and the former prevailed anew to set up a title showdown against Oceanside Hunters. (
