A man allegedly beat up and robbed a taxi driver before fleeing with the latter’s car in Gualo Rai Friday night.

The suspect, Vincent James Palacios Deleon Guerrero, 22, was arrested after the taxi driver jumped out of the car and ran into Shell Highway Express where he called for police assistance.

Deleon Guerrero was detained for robbery, theft of vehicle, assault and battery, and disturbing the peace. He is being kept on a $100,000 cash bail.

Police detective Roque K. Camacho stated in his report that the Department of Public Safety Central Office received a call on Friday at 9:12pm about a theft incident at Shell Express in Gualo Rai.

The victim, a Chinese national, told the responding officer that he had picked up Deleon Guerrero at the Chalan Kiya Mobil Station earlier that night. Deleon Guerrero asked to be dropped off at at J’s Restaurant in Gualo Rai.

As they were heading north on Middle Road, the suspect opened the car’s glove compartment and started checking inside. When the taxi driver asked what he was doing, the suspect allegedly told him to give him his money or he would kill him.

Deleon Guerrero then allegedly slapped the victim and grabbed his throat. The victim gave his wallet from his pocket. After taking the money, the suspect gave back the wallet to the victim and demanded for more money.

The driver then drove into the Shell Highway Express, ran out from the car, and went inside the store where he called the police.

Deleon Guerrero took the car and sped north.

Later that night, police arrested Deleon Guerrero in Chalan Kiya.

The police report did not state if the victim was injured or whether the vehicle was recovered.
