Lady Dolphins sweep first round of MISO v’ball

MONROYO) Marianas High School dominated Saipan Southern High School last Tuesday to sweep the first round of competition in the 2013-2014 Marianas Interscholastic Sports Organization Girls Volleyball League.

The Lady Dolphins now have eight victories in as many games to gain some distance against Grace Christian Academy (7-1) and Mount Carmel School (6-2). Saipan International School (5-2), MHS JV (3-5), Southern (3-5), Kagman (2-6), SIS JV (2-7), and Kagman JV (0-8) complete the standings pending results of yesterday’s matches.

The varsity team of MHS dominated Southern in their game last Tuesday, 25-4, 25-11, 15-2, and also secured the early win over Kagman JV last Feb. 6, winning the first two sets of the match, 25-11, 25-8, to sweep the first round of the two-round robin league. Kagman JV avoided a shutout against the Lady Dolphins when it eked out a 15-13 victory in the third set.

In other results last Feb. 6, Mt. Carmel, GCA, and Kagman prevailed against separate foes in all three sets. The Lady Knights bagged the early win against MHS JV, 25-10, 25-17, before completing the sweep with a 15-9 triumph in the second set. The Lady Eagles pulled off a 25-20 win over SIS in the opening set and sealed the outright victory with a 25-18 triumph in the second set. GCA was still at it in the third, downing SIS, 15-13. Kagman also had a tough time against SIS JV in the first set before notching a 25-22 win, and the Lady Ayuyus went on to bag the automatic victory after the second set, 25-21. Kagman then went 3-0 with its 15-6 win in the last set.

The Lady Geckos’ junior varsity squad bounced back last Tuesday after edging MHS JV. Victories in the first two sets, 25-23, 25-14 handed SIS JV the win, while MHS JV managed to steal the third set, 15-12.

In the two other games last Tuesday, the Lady Knights and Lady Eagles kept pace with MHS after winning their separate matches. GCA stayed in second place in the team standings, following a 25-11, 27-25, 15-9 victory over SIS, while Mt. Carmel kept the No. 3 spot with its 25-22, 25-23, 16-14 win against Kagman.
