The CNMI Republican Party is pleased to announce that the GOP board of directors met on Feb. 19, 2014 and unanimously appointed James Aldan Ada as president to fill the position vacated by Jack P. Villagomez.
Villagomez resigned late last year after successfully presiding over the restructuring of the Republican Party and its merger with the recently dissolved Covenant Party.
In his opening remarks, Ada expressed his appreciation for the board’s trust in him and conveyed to the board members and the public that the GOP office is operational and ready for business.
In his first order of business, Ada clarified the GOP’s position on the selection of a candidate for the U.S. Delegate Office to run against incumbent Delegate Gregorio Kilili Sablan. Despite recent media reports, the GOP has not selected a candidate nor has it ceased entertaining candidates for the delegate position. The GOP has publicly announced that the position of U.S. delegate, mayor, and representative are open to interested candidates and that letters of intent to file for candidacy remains open until 4pm today.
The board further stated that the GOP during their Sept. 25, 2013, general membership meeting unanimously endorsed Gov. Eloy S. Inos and Senate President Ralph DLG. Torres as the official CNMI Republican Party candidates for governor and lt. governor in the 2014 general election. The GOP Central Committee, per the GOP bylaws, also unanimously endorsed Oscar M. Babauta and Arnold I. Palacios as its candidates for the Senate seats representing Saipan and the Northern Islands. Candidates from Tinian and Rota will be selected by their respective GOP precinct clubs.
Ada expressed his enthusiasm for this election season as the party continues to build a strong slate of Republican candidates, and he reminded interested party members that letters of intent to file for candidacy remains open until 4pm today.
The GOP wishes to thank the community for its continued support and cordially invites all members, family, friends, and supporters to join in the GOP Kick-Off Rally scheduled for Sunday, March 23, 2014, at the Susupe Basketball Courts. (GOP)
