17-month-old boy drowns in swimming pool

A 17-month old boy drowned in the swimming pool of his home in Papago last Thursday, the Department of Public Safety disclosed yesterday.

DPS police spokesman Travis Hurst said that due to the nature of the incident, the victim and the family’s identity will not be released at this time.

Hurst said the Division of Youth Services is currently investigating the case.

DPS received a 911 call about a drowning at a residential pool on Thursday at 2:52pm.

DPS Fire medics responded and attempted to resuscitate the boy but were unsuccessful. The victim was brought to the Commonwealth Health Center where he was pronounced dead.

Hurst said the boy was under the supervision of his mother when the incident happened.
