Kilili, Deleon Guerrero tour Pentagon, quantico ranges

WASHINGTON, D.C.—Delegate Gregorio Kilili Sablan (Ind-MP) and CNMI House Speaker Joseph Deleon Guerrero (Ind-Saipan) visited the Pentagon on Monday, Feb. 22, and Marine Corps Base Quantico, VA, on Wednesday, Feb. 26.

Sablan and Deleon Guerrero attended a briefing followed by a tour of the Pentagon. The briefing, hosted by the Deputy Commandant for Plans, Policies & Operations, Lt. Gen. Ronald Bailey, focused on Marine Corps training concepts, the USMC Pacific Posture plans, and the CNMI Joint Military Training Environmental Impact Statement process and progress to date.

On Wednesday, Sablan and Deleon Guerrero toured the range complex at Marine Corps Base in Quantico, where they observed live-fire artillery training. The range complex, located 36 miles from the nation’s capital, operates daily in close proximity to the surrounding civilian community. During the tour and demonstration of the range control technology, the CNMI representatives were briefed on Range Operations and Environmental Management detailing how the Marine Corps manages and operates ranges to ensure public safety, while preserving nearby environmental and cultural resources and minimizing impacts to national airspace and recreational activities in this densely populated area of Virginia.
