Energy conservation, alternative energy and how these and other measures can work in the CNMI will be the focus of discussion among government and business leaders who will gather together for the 2nd Annual Saipan Chamber of Commerce’s 2006 Marianas Roundtable Focus on Energy.
Seven experts on energy conservation and alternative energy have been invited to attend this one-day conference on Thursday, Aug. 31, 2006, at the Fiesta Resort and Spa Saipan.
Darren T. Kimura, a distinguished expert in energy entrepreneurship, will provide insight into marketing energy efficiency and renewable energy. He is the president and chief executive office of Energy Industries Holdings Inc.
Kimura’s experience has made him an international success, having been featured in numerous industry magazines and often as a keynote speaker in numerous national conferences on energy.
Kimura’s career in energy entrepreneurship began at the University of Hawaii in 1992. While still a student, he founded Nalu Communications, an early Internet service provider. Two years later, Kimura created Energy Industries, an international provider of energy services specializing in advisory services, energy engineering, digital automation and installation. EI has received numerous energy awards including the 2002 Small Business Administration’s Service Firm of the Year Award.
Kimura’s other companies include Energy Laboratories, a division of EI that has successfully founded seven companies, five of which have been re-acquired by EI. Following the devastation from Hurricane Katrina, Kimura founded the Environmental Sustainability Network, a company whose goal is to promote energy efficiency, efficient generation and renewable energy as needed actions to slow down global warning.
ESN produces a weekly Internet radio show called “Energy Smart News” which has 70,000 listeners per month from over seven different countries. The show has been listed as the third overall business podcast by Yahoo!, Top Pick of the Week and Top 25 highest rated show.
Kimura has been in the entrepreneur of the year list of the SBA since 2000. In 2002, he was named SBA’s Regional Young Entrepreneur of the Year awardee for California, Nevada, Arizona and Guam.
Attendees to the conference also have a chance to participate in the Energy Expo Trade Show, which is open to the public at no cost. Vendors who provide energy-related products and services will demonstrate what is available to the public and to businesses to help them with their energy needs.
Cost to attend the Marianas Roundtable is $35, inclusive of lunch. As space is limited, those who are interested to participate are asked to call the Saipan Chamber of Commerce at 233-7150 to register. (PR)
