FHB Foundation donates $10K to Guam Boy Scouts

HAGÅTÑA, Guam-The Aloha Council, Boy Scouts of America Chamorro District has been given a grant of $10,000 by the First Hawaiian Bank Foundation, the charitable arm of First Hawaiian Bank, according to an announcement yesterday by Don Horner, president and chief executive officer.

The funds will be used to support Scouting programs and activities in the Chamorro District on Guam.

The $10,000 donation was presented to District chair Dan Murrell and District executive Neil Rasmussen by Horner and Ed Untalan, vice president and Maite Banking Center manager.

“Scouting builds character and provides skills and training opportunities which prepare our youth for leadership roles in life,” said Laura-Lynn V. Dacanay, senior vice president, Guam and CNMI Region Manager. “We are pleased to be supporting and investing in the youth on Guam and CNMI who will become the future leaders of tomorrow.”

“We now have 500 Boy Scouts in various categories that are registered on Guam. We should have at least 1,000. The support that we received from First Hawaiian Bank will go a long way in helping us finance our plans to achieve this goal,” said Dan Murrell, District chair, Boy Scouts of America.

The Boy Scouts of America has been instilling positive values on Guam since 1920. The Aloha Council is the Boy Scouts of America's largest geographic council, covering over 6 million square miles across the Pacific Ocean. It serves youth and their leaders throughout the Hawaiian Islands, American Samoa, The Marshall Islands, The Federated States of Micronesia, Palau, Guam and the Northern Mariana Islands. Scouting is an effective youth development program with everlasting impact for its participants. Anyone interested in helping the Boy Scouts with time and leadership or financial support may call Neil Rasmussen, Guam District Executive for more information at telephone number 649-0639.

First Hawaiian Bank is one of the largest banks in Micronesia with two branches on Saipan and three branches on Guam. The bank has total assets of over $12 billion. (PR)
