24 undergo nursing assistant training

The Area Health Education Center at the Northern Marianas College will complete conducting the Nursing Assistant Training Program on Aug. 10, 2007.

Certificates will be given to the 24 participants who completed the training. Participants included 11 from Rota and 13 from Saipan, 10 of which are staff from the Rota Mayor’s office, five from WIA, three from Saipan Health Clinic, one from NMC, and one from Marianas High School.

Registered nurses Elizabeth Torres-Untalan, Pascuana Calvo and Rosa M. Tudela conducted the training. The instructors received Nursing Instructional Training from Kapiolano Community College Nursing Program.

Visiting the program this week is May Kealoha, director of the Nursing Program at KCC. She is giving Technical Assistance to the Nursing Assistant Program at NMC.

AHEC is a federal grant under the John A. Burns School of Medicine, University of Hawaii. The CNMI AHEC is one of several in the Pacific. Its mission is to increase and improve quantity, quality and diversity of the health workforce in the area. AHEC is developing a variety of allied health training including Pharmacology Tech in nursing.
