Rotary, Café at the Park serve lunch to man'amko

The Saipan Rotary Club held a luncheon for the senior citizens at the Man'amko Center Wednesday.

Officers and members of the non-profit group donated stacks of new bingo cards to the center. They also helped serve the food that Café at the Park had prepared for the senior citizens.

Howard Macaranas, executive director of the Office of Aging, said the Rotary Club of Saipan has always been generous and giving to the senior citizens for the past 10 years.

“We have been community partners for a long time. They're often asking what the center needs. They have donated food and clothing. They have talked about donating digital cameras and printers to add to our computer program. They have been really helpful,” he said.

According to Patrick Calvo, Saipan Rotary Club president, the club is a non-profit organization that aims to help the youth, elderly and the needy. It is composed of business people committed to giving service to the community.

Macaranas presented a certificate of appreciation to the group, acknowledging their kindness and generosity to the senior citizens at the center.

“We just want them to know that they have become a part of our family,” he said.

Macaranas also recognized the Office of the Washington Representative for a donation of exercise equipments for the elderly.

Also present during Wednesday's event were 2007 Little Miss Marianas Kayla Borja, 2007 Miss Marianas Teen Kayla Dee Atalig, and 2007 Little Miss Marianas Kassandra Royal.

Royal and her family donated a large gift basket to the senior citizens, while Borja and Atalig distributed bags of betel nut and pupulu' to each of the elderly.

“We welcome anybody and everybody who wantd to visit the Man'amko Center. Many people have been very kind. It is kindness that makes a person rich,” Macaranas said.
