Coast Guard air crew medically evacuates ill infant from A. Samoa

HONOLULU -A U.S. Coast Guard air crew conducted a medical evacuation of an ill infant from American Samoa to Oahu Tuesday.

Coast Guard Joint Rescue Coordination Center (JRCC) watch standers here received a call from the Department of Health and Human Services Command Center in Washington, D.C.,  Monday about a 54-day-old girl in American Samoa who required immediate air transport to Tripler Army Medical Center on Oahu.

A Coast Guard C-130 long-range search plane air crew from Air Station Barbers Point departed American Samoa with a Disaster Medical Assist Team (DMAT)  Monday evening and arrived on Oahu at about 2:30am Tuesday.

A Coast Guard flight surgeon, the Department of Health and Human Services Command Center and JRCC watch standers all contributed to the successful completion of the medical transport. (PR)
