A 27-year-old man is facing charges in court after he allegedly beat up his common-law wife while she was breastfeeding their baby.
Brigido Itibus Ilo, 27, was charged with assault with a dangerous weapon, assault and battery, assault, and disturbing the peace.
Police said the victim sustained a swollen forehead, bruises on the elbow and knee, scratches on the neck and arm, and a cut on the left ear. She was shaking and crying in fear when police officers responded.
Superior Court Associate Judge Kenneth Govendo imposed a $15,000 cash bail for Ilo's temporary liberty. Preliminary hearing is tomorrow, Nov. 17, at 1:30pm.
The victim told police that on Nov. 6 at 6pm she, Ilo, and their children were at a family residence in Dandan where Ilo was drinking with family members.
Once they got home at 3am, Ilo accused his wife of having an affair with a family member. Ilo then allegedly threw a can of beer, hitting the victim on the forehead.
Later, as the victim was breastfeeding their baby, Ilo allegedly punched her several times, pushed her to the wall, pulled her hair, and threatened to kill her with a machete.
Ilo then took both children and left the house.
Medics transported the victim to the Commonwealth Health Center. While police were interviewing the victim, Ilo showed up. Police arrested him.
