Glushko's Academy of Performing Arts, in partnership with the Palms Resort Saipan, will be staging a holiday extravaganza that has never been seen before on Saipan.
This year's spectacular holiday performance is Sleeping Beauty, a classic ballet with music composed by Tchaikovsky and performed by world-class international ballet stars from Russia, Japan, and Korea.
Performances are scheduled for Dec. 4, 5, and 6, 2009 (Friday, Saturday, and Sunday), at the Theater Hall of the Palms Resort. Shows will start promptly every night at 7pm. The doors will open at 6:30pm. Tickets are available from parents of the school's 60-plus students who will have roles in the performances. Tickets are also on sale at all Shell gas stations and at the Shirley's Restaurant in Garapan.
“This year, we will have two evenings set aside as 'Ballet Nights for the Whole Family'-on both Friday and Sunday performances, Dec. 4 and 6,” said Anna Glushko, founder of the local ballet school. “On Saturday evening, Dec. 5, we will have a 'Fundraising Ballet & Cocktail Show,' with raffle.”
The two “Family Ballet Nights” will have two parts:
First is the staging of Sleeping Beauty, with the participation of 60 students from Glushko's Academy and the international star ballet professionals.
The second part will present only the international ballet stars. Tickets for these shows are very affordable at $15 for adults and $10 for children ages 3 - 12 years old.
For the “Fundraising Ballet Raffle & Cocktail Show” on Saturday, Dec. 5, the performers will just be the professional ballet stars from Russia, Japan, and Korea. Tickets for this show are $35 for adults and $15 per child, and will include one alcoholic or one non-alcoholic beverage of your choice.
The Academy is planning to have up to 10 international ballet professionals perform during each of the three nights of concerts at the Palms Resort.
“This year, we will have very famous Russian professionals Margarita Rudina and Alexey Nasadovich, who many will recognize as they also performed for us last year. They are currently working as ballet principals for the world-class Bratislava Ballet in the Slovak Republic,” said Glushko. “Graciously and due to their love for Saipan, they have again agreed to fly over 10,000 miles just to perform for our Saipan community.”
“We will also have a brother-and-sister performing team from Osaka, Japan: Asami and Keisuke Takai. They are currently working in the European capital of Dublin in the country of Ireland,” she said.
The Takagi Ballet School from Tokyo, Japan will also send four dancers, while the No. 1 ballet academy in Korea, the Universal Ballet Academy, will present two of its best dancers to round out the international delegation of stars.
“The production costs to stage this event is quite high, in the tens of thousands of dollars. However, thanks to our parents, and the generous financial contribution from our kind sponsors, we are able to afford to stage (what would otherwise be unachievable) such an excellent professional performance for our small island community,” said Glushko.
This year's sponsors include the Palms Resort, Delta Airlines, Asiana Airlines, Wells Fargo, Kendall-Jackson Wine Estate, Bank of Guam, First Hawaiian Bank, Burger & Comer PC CPA, Hyatt Regency Saipan, Joeten Shopping Center, Triple J Motors, ToothWorks, DFS Galleria, KZMI 103.9 My FM, and KSPN Channel 2 News.
“Glushko's Academy of Performing Arts wishes each sponsor our collective heartfelt thank you. Without you, none of these could have been possible,” said Glushko.
