Manacop advances to masters

Team Saipan's Simon Manacop finished in the Top 16 of the Men's All Events, assuring himself a spot in the masters of the 23rd Asian Intercity Bowling Championships at the Central Lanes in Tamuning, Guam.

The Department of Public Safety detective wound up with 3,935 pinfalls to finish 11th place in the Men's All Events. He knocked down 1,328 pins in the singles, 1,353 in the doubles, and 1,254 in the Team of 4 to average 218.61 pinfalls.

Daegu bowlers occupy the Top 4 spots in the Men's All Events with Choi Suk Byung pacing his teammates with 4,326 pinfalls. He was followed by Kim Young Pyo (4,279), Shin Sung Hoon (4,156), and Bae Su Wook (4,094).

The rest of the finalists in the men's masters are the following: Tamuning's Brian Manibusan (4,092); Taipei's Wang Kuah-Yu (4,037); Hong Kong's Lau Kwan Ho (4,008); Tamuning's J.D. Castro (4,001); Pohang's Im Hyun Woo (3,965); Tamuning's John Ada (3,958); Quezon City's Jay Ar Tan (3,931);Tamuning's Jonathan Duenas (3,892); Victoria's Alex Li Su Tsan (3,882); Quezon City's Louie Chuaquico (3,881); and Hong's Michael Chan Yat Long (3,865).

Capital Hill's Raymond Angeles (3,723) and teammate Raymond Zapanta (3,652) came in 21st and 27th best, while Team Saipan's Kitz Barja (3,418) and Alex Castro (3,305) wound up 42nd and 46th, respectively.

Capital Hill's Raphael Zapanta (3,163), Team Saipan's Percy Omechalang (3,094), and Jared Gutierrez (3,090) finished from 55th to 57th places in the 59-player men's field.

In the Women's All Events, Pohang teammates Yoon Jun Sil (4,044) and Kim Hee Jung (4,007) finished 1-2, while Paranaque's Lara Posadas took third place with her 3,885.

Shah Alam's Yap Win Yin (3,817), Tamuning's Felymar Mandapat (3,763), Paranaque's Cecilia Yap (3,739) and Liza Clutario (3,726), Tamuning's Shelee Javier (3,710), Pasay's Yap Seok Kim (3,656) and Angeli Lao (3,623), Shah Alam's Choy Poi Lai (3,504), Pasay's Sheena Angeli Go (3,487), Tamuning's Leanne Rankin (3,407), Pasay's Ditas Red (3,450), Daegu's Choi Kyung Yeon (3,384) and Kim Eun Sook (3,368) complete the Top 16 in the Women's All Events.

Diana Camacho was Team Saipan's best female bowler in the tournament with her Women's All Events score of 3,103. Elsa “Gigi” Zapanta came away with 3,034, followed by Emi Williams (3,027) and Gloria Omechalang (2,973).

The foursome of Angeles, brothers Raymond and Raphael Zapanta, and Gutierrez, meanwhile, finished 10th in the men's Team of 4 event held last Wednesday with their total of 4,624 pinfalls.

Manacop, Barja, Percy Omechalang, and Castro came in 13th of 15 teams with their 4,380.

Daegu expectedly won the men's Team of 4 with Choi, Bae, Shin, and Kim knocking down 5,514 pins. Tamuning came in second (5,357) with Hong Kong third (4,959).

In the women's Team of 4 Mandapat, Rankin, Javier, and Marie Velasco of Tamuning took first place with their 4,887 pinfalls. Second belonged to Paranaque with their 4,806, while Pohang took third place with their 4,786.

Williams, Camacho, Zapanta, and Gloria Omechalang wound up eighth with their 3,969.

The 23rd Asian Intercity Bowling Championships winds down tonight with the conclusion of the men's and women's masters events.
