Simon settles for eighth as masters concludes

Simon Manacop of Team Saipan maintained his eighth place standing as the men's masters category of the 23rd Asian Intercity Bowling Championships concluded Friday at the Central Lanes in Tamuning, Guam.

After knocking down 1,776 in the first block Thursday, the Department of Public Safety detective fired a 1,692 in the second block, plus a 50-pinfall bonus, for a 16-game total of 3,518, which was good for a 214.25 average.

Manacop was 486 pins short of runaway men's masters champion Choi Suk Byung of Daegu. Choi came away with a whopping pinfall total of 4,004, giving him an eye-popping average of 244.

J.D. Castro of host Tamuning finished a far second with 3,739 pinfalls, followed by teammate Jonathan Duenas and Daegu's Kim Young Pyo with scores of 3,719 and 3,712, respectively.

The rest of the participants in the men's masters, with their scores in parenthesis, are as follows: Tamuning's John John Ada (3,642); Pohang's Im Hyun Woo (3,559); Quezon City's Jay Ar Tan (3,522); Tamuning's Brian Manibusan (3,510); Daegu's Bae Wu Wook (3,476) and Shun Sung Hoon (3,468); Hong Kong's Lau Kwan Ho (3,454); Quezon City's Louie Chuaquico (3,325); Hong Kong's Michael Chan Yatw Long (3,297); Taipei's Wang Kuah-Yu (3,272); and Victoria's Alex Li Siu Tsan (3,086).

In the women's masters, Liza Clutario of Paranque topped the field with her 3,748 pinfalls, good for a 224.8 average. Teammate Lara Posadas was second with her 3,719 with Tamuning's Felymar Mandapat finishing third with her 3,678.

Pohang's Kim Hee Jung (3,634), Paranque's Cecilia Yap (3,609), Tamuning's Sharee Javier (3,568), Shan Alam's Yap Wi Yin (3,540), Pohang's Yoon Jun Sil (3,439), Daegu's Choi Hyung Yeon (3,373), Pasay's Ditas Red (3,364), Shah Alam's Chay Poh Lai (3,189), Pasay's Sheena Angeli Go (3,145) and Angeli Lao (3,139), Tamuning' Leanne Rankin (3,134), Pasay's Yap Seok Kim (3,106), and Daegu's Kim Eun Sook (2,983) make up the rest of the women's masters participants.

Manacop was joined in the trip to Guam by Team Saipan teammates Kitz Barja, Percy Omechalang, and Alex Castro, Team Capital Hill's Raymond and Raphael Zapanta, Raymond Angeles, and Jared Gutierrez, and the women's team made up of Elsa “Gigi” Zapanta, Diane Camacho, Emi Williams, and Gloria Omechalang.

Saipan Bowling Association Jerry Tan and team manager Ross Zapanta accompanied the Saipan delegation to the U.S. territory.
